Hypersomnia

2021.04.21

My mom and I worked as ta's back in my high school

It's a run-down building in the middle of nowhere just like the one abandoned building from my middle school

When we walked up to the building there were lockers at the entrance and then the stairs

As we walked in, there was a woman holding a little girl

My mom suddenly exclaimed that the thief had just run away

We had just passed them by the time

I looked back and saw the thief running away

But I didn't see who has stolen what

Dreams are instincts, they are not one’s ego, they are rather one’s self. It becomes a process for me to communicate with myself with such instinct or subconsciousness. Dream is a threshold between the present and past me, my consciousness and subconsciousness.

Visualization of a concept or thoughts in both reality and dreams are based upon the deconstruction and juxtaposition of the memory fragments.

In my dreams, it is a reconstruction of the random orders of various entities, my repressed desires, wishes and fears, past experiences, memories, and self-determination, etc. The conversations with myself are composed with these layers of fragments.

This specific narrative I’ve chosen is one of the most memorable and relatable dreams I’ve had through the previous years. This specific dream relates to the experiences back in high school and the relationship between my mom and I. As I subconsciously chose to not remember a lot of the past experiences, I tend to recap and reorganize them in my dreams. Even though each individual has different dreams everyday with various visual organizations in their heads, it is the emotion this project is trying to convey.
